BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – The marquis event for this years St.Kitts-Nevis national carnival is once again expected to be the  Digicel Haynes Smith Miss Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant. The pageant which is in it's 29th year promises to be an exciting part of the St. Kitts National Carnival celebrations.

 This year’s event will see several new initiatives and a new Caribbean representative. According to Antonio Maynard, Chairman of the Pageant’s Committee, over the years, the event has gained the reputation of being one of the most prestigious and entertaining pageants in the Caribbean.

 “And this year promises to be no exception to the tremendous excellence in presentation, pageantry and excitement that is always evident,” he said.

 There are also a few new initiatives that have been added to this year’s competition, including an EC$2, 000 award for the winner of the Best Talent segment.

Maynard declared that the pageant has always emphasised talent and the prize should enable a higher level of performance from the contestants in this particular segment, and also a higher quality of performance from them overall throughout the show.

 Show Director Maynard also declared that contestants from 11 countries would be competing in the pageant, including newcomer Miss Bahamas.

This year will  feature Miss Jamaica and Miss Bermuda, who will be participating for just the second time in the history of the pageant.

The contestants will be appearing in five segments: Production Number, Ambassadorial Appearance, Talent, Evening Wear and Interview.

 The full list of countries and their representatives are: Aprile Gumbs (17), Anguilla; Ashley Morle (14), The Bahamas; Alyssa Rose (17), Bermuda; Alethia Turnbull (18), BVI; Asha Clarke (17), Grenada; Utieka John (17), Guyana; Sashana Lemard (15), Jamaica; Che-Raina Warner (16), St. Kitts; Amy Stephen (15), St. Lucia; Annelia Boyce (15), Trinidad and Tobago; and 16-year-old Elle Nielsen of the USVI.

The show is scheduled for Monday, December 29 at CarnivalVillage, and the participants are expected to arrive in St. Kitts on Saturday, December 27.
