1. PRODUCTION NUMBER - 10 points
This appearance will take on a style and format different from the previous years. It would not necessarily be an Introduction Appearance, but involves a routine of dance and modeling with all of the contestants, dramatizing a particular theme. A professional choreographer will conduct rehearsals.
Attire Design
Please note that it is important to place much emphasis on this outfit/dress, as it will be judged. Please find a sketch and description of the attire attached (See Criteria).
Musical Accompaniment
This will be the responsibility of the committee.
2. AMBASSADORIAL APPEARANCE - 40 points
In this appearance, the contestant will be acting as an ambassador of her Country/Island.
ATTIRE: The outfit or costume of this appearance should depict or describes any aspect of your Country/Islands culture, heritage or current lifestyle, by applying a strong interpretation to same mentioned above.
It is also important to note that the costume should not have been worn by a previous contestant or at a previous pageant. Special attention should be paid to the following areas, in order to ensure maximum impact. These are:
- the colours and accessories
- design, style and glamour
- the proper interpretation of the particular aspect of your country
- uniqueness and originality of costume
Please note that points will be allocated to the dress/outfit as well as the speech. (Please see criteria).
SPEECH: The Contestant must speak on a matter of current interest in her Country/Island that has developed over the past year. Points will be awarded for content, diction, clarity and logical development.
The time allotted for this speech is one (1) minute. Deductions will be made if speech exceeds the stipulated time limit.
Please check the length of the speech before leaving your Country/Island to ensure that it is within the time stipulated.
3. PERFORMING TALENT - 80 points
Contestant may exhibit her talent in a single or combined act, and may do one or more of the following: singing, dancing, reciting, dramatic reading, instrumentalist, magician, gymnast, etc. Modeling and fire acts are strictly forbidden.
The talent material performed or accompaniment used should be appreciated not only locally but throughout the Caribbean and the world at large. Contestants should therefore avoid material that is offensive to any particular race or creed, costumes that are too revealing, and songs or readings with mature lyrics.
The performing talent must be completed in four (4) minutes, as points will be deducted after the time limit has expired.
Music Accompaniment
This will be the responsibility of the contestant/chaperone. The hired house band for the pageant will not be available for this appearance.
Recorded Music
If recorded music is a part of contestant's act, it is advised that you bring with you two (2) professionally made chrome cassettes. The music should be on side A and there should be nothing else on the cassette.
Props
Contestant/chaperone must provide all props other than a table and chair, and are responsible for their placing and removal after performance.
Equipment
Contestant/chaperone must provide all equipment and will be responsible for all costs connected with rental, shipping, and transportation to and from the pageant site. The committee cannot be held accountable for damage or destruction of such equipment.
Lighting
There will be special lighting effects, but request has to be made in advance in writing.
Rehearsals
Contestant and chaperone must ensure that adequate rehearsals are held prior to arrival, as there are no arrangements for individual rehearsals. There will be group rehearsals at the pageant site and contestant/chaperone will be allowed a few moments then to do a quick run through.
Attire
Outfits worn should be appropriate for teenagers. Please avoid revealing bust, stomach and posterior. If wearing leotards, tights and underwear must also be worn.
Written Information
Prior to each contestant's performance, a short introduction will be read. Please have this prepared and deliver it to the committee immediately upon arrival. A typewritten description of four (4) lines ONLY. Information must include name of contestant, country or island represented, type or talent, and theme if any.
4. EVENING WEAR/INTERVIEW - 60 points
Contestants will parade in Evening Wear.
This should be a youthful-looking Evening Gown, ankle length or to floor. Sequins or pearls can be used on bows or ruffles, or to border the neckline or hemline, or to decorate very sparingly the bodice or back of the dress. The gown should not look too mature.
There is no restriction on the height of the heel of the shoe. Some restrictions on the dress have also been relaxed.
The Committee will be responsible for the musical accompaniment of this segment.
Please have prepared and deliver immediately upon arrival a description of no more than four (4) lines. The information should include name of contestant, island or country represented, name, designer and dressmaker of gown.
HAIR/MAKE-UP
Avoid hairstyles that hide or distract contestant's face. Nevertheless, Wigs, braids, and extensions are allowed. Before leaving your Country/Island - cut, relax or curl your hair. Time is allowed for hairdresser appointments at your own expense. For the night of the
Pageant, however, hairdressers will be available. We therefore stress that there is no need to bring a hairdresser.
Minimal use of make-up is recommended. Nails should be of normal length with clear or
Pale pink polish. Large earrings and thick chains are not acceptable.
Remember, we are striving to maintain a youthful appearance, with dignity and elegance.
INTERVIEW - 35 points
Following the parade in Evening Gown, there will be a short interview. Questions will be taken from information given in contestant's bio data. Therefore, a type written bio data must be sent along with the forms and photos. Questions might also be derived from a given subject, based on a particular sponsor.
