Miss Digicel Haynes Smith Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant

Celebrating Talent, Education and Culture

1.         AMBASSADORIAL APPEARANCE

 
In this appearance, the contestant will be acting as an Ambassador for her Country/Island. The contestant must speak of a matter of current interest that has developed over the past year or on any important event that take place in her country.
 
The time allocated for the speech is one (1) minute.
 
(A)       SPEECH CONTENT           10 POINTS
 
-          Strong sense that speech was spontaneously delivered
-          Speech was delivered within allotted time
-          Information given should adequately highlight the contestants country
-          There should be no grammatical errors
-          There should be good sentence construction
-          Speech should flow (use of good linking words and connecting phrases)
-          Contestant should not forget speech or part(s) of it
 
Contestants are required to make a speech, thus no singing whatsoever is permitted.
 
Score as follows:
 
For 2 or less errors                score 7-10 pts.
For 3 or 4 errors                    score 4 - 6 pts.
For 5 or more errors             score 0-3 pts
 
(B)       NATURALNESS                 15 POINTS
 
-          Speech must be delivered with confidence
-          Voice must not be pitched too high or too low
-          There should be no excess use of body language nor should contestant use words that seem alien to her
-          Delivery must be fluent
 
Score as follows:
 
For 1 error                             score 11-15 pts.
For 2 errors                           score 7 ½ - 10 ½ pts.
For 3 errors                           score 4-7 pts.
For 4 or more errors             score 0-3 pts.
 
 
(C)       DICTION/CLARITY                      5 POINTS
 
-          Good control of breathing
-          Good intonation
-          Does not ignore important vowel and consonant cluster sounds
-          There should be no evidence of slurred speech
 
Score as follows:
 
No errors                                score 5 pts.
For 1 error                             score 4 pts.
For 2 or 3 errors                    score 3 pts
For 4 errors                           score 1 pt.
 
(D)       POSTURE/EYE CONTACT          5 POINTS
 
-          Good posture/no slouching
-          Contestant must not appear too focused on one spot/person
-          There should be no pacing/shifting of legs or unwarranted stiffness
-          Contestant should not open eyes too wide, nor seem to be squinting
 
Score as follows:
 
No errors                                score 5 pts.
For 1 error                             score 4 pts.
For 2 errors                           score 3 pts.
For 3 errors                           score 2 pts.
For 4 errors                           score 1 pt.
 
(E)       ATTIRE                                            5 POINTS
 
-          Good choice of a colour and accessories
-          Good choice of material, including design, style and glamour
-          Outfit should fit well
-          Proper interpretation of the particular aspect of country in outfit, as well as uniqueness and originality of outfit/costume
 
Score as follows:
 
Poor                                        score 1 ½ pts.
Fair                                         score 2 ½ - 3 pts.
Good                                       score 3 ½ - 4 pts.
Very Good                             score 4 ½ - 5 pts.
 
For exceeding the time limit, deduct 1-2 points.

2.         PERFORMING TALENT

A contestant may do one or more combinations of the following: sing, dance, recite, or dramatize. She may be an instrumentalist, magician or gymnast. No modelling or fire acts are allowed.
 
The performing talent is limited to four (4) minute or less.
 
(A)       EXECUTION OF TALENT           65 POINTS
 
-          Contestant should be skilled in selected talent(s)
-          Performance should be naturally delivered
-          There should be no evidence of discomfort during performance
-          Contestant should not rely too heavily on props, accompaniment or costume
-          Performance should not be a duplication of a talent presentation done in previous pageants by another contestant
-          Performance must truly represent the theme or title
 
Score as follows:
 
Very Poor                              score 1 - 9 ½ pts.
Poor                                        score 10 - 19 ½ pts.
Fair                                         score 20 - 34 ½ pts.
Good                                       score 35 - 45 pts.
Very Good                             score 46 - 55 ½ pts.
Excellent                                 score 56 - 65 pts.
 
 
(B)       PRESENTATION                            15 POINTS
 
Use of costume, props, set, special effects, accompaniment must not:
           
  • Detract from performance  
  • Overpower performance
  • Be in discord with performance
Score as follows:
 
Poor                                        score 1 - 6 ½ pts.
Fair                                         score 7 - 9 pts.
Good                                       score 9 ½ - 11 ½ pts.
Very Good                             score 12 - 15 pts.
 
For exceeding the time limit, deduct 3 - 6 points.
 
 
3.         EVENING WEAR
 
(A)       IMPACT                                5 POINTS
 
-          Dress should evoke a reaction of approval/admiration from its use of form and material
-          Dress should be interesting/exciting
-          Dress should not be easily recognizable as being presented in a previous pageant
 
Scores as follows:
 
No errors                                score 5 pts.
For 1 error                             score 4 pts.
For 2 errors                           score 3 pts.
For 3 errors                           score 2 pts.
 
(B)       FIT/SUITABILITY              5 POINTS
 
-          Dress should be well made
-          Dress should fit properly
-          Color of dress should suit a teenager
-          Style should be suitable for a teenager
-          Selection of accessories/hair style/ make-up must suit a teenager and this contestant in particular
 
Scores as follows:
 
No errors                               score 5 pts.
For 1 error                             score 4 pts.
For 2 errors                           score 3 pts.
For 3 errors                           score 2 pts.
For 4 errors                           score 1 pts.
For 5 errors                           score 0 pts.
 
(C)       PERSONALITY                   10 POINTS
 
-          Contestant must project an appealing quality
-          Contestant must appear friendly and pleasant
-          Contestant must be comfortable in front of an audience
 
Score as follows:
 
For 1or less errors                             score 8-10 pts.
For 2 errors                                       score 5 - 7 ½ pts.
For 3 errors                                       score 1 - 4 ½ pts.
 
 
(D)       MODELLING/DEPORTMENT    5 POINTS
 
-          Contestant should walk properly and hold upper body erect
-          Turns should be smooth
-          Hand movement should be graceful
-          Poses should be properly executed and varied
 
Scores as follows:
 
For no errors                                     score 5 pts.
For 1 error                                         score 4 pts.
For 2 errors                                       score 2 - 3 pts.
For 3 errors                                       score 1 pt.
For 4 errors                                       score 0 pts.
 
 
ON-STAGE INTERVIEW
 
(A)       CONTENT/RELEVANCE             15 POINTS
 
-          Answer must not be irrelevant to question(s)
-          Not many "er's", "umm's" or "ar's"
-          No contradictions/redundancies
-          Contestant must not pause for too long a period.
 
Scores as follows:
 
For 2 or less error                             score 11-15 pts.
For 3 errors                                       score 7 ½ - 10 ½ pts.
For 4 errors                                       score 4 - 7 pts.
For 5 errors                                       score 1 - 3 pts.
 
(B)       COMMAND OF LANGUAGE       10 POINTS
 
-          Good sentence construction
-          No grammatical errors
-          Appropriate use of quotations, figures of speech, slang, dialect and foreign language
-          Words should be properly pronounced
-          Speech should not be slurred
 
Scores as follows:
 
For 2 or less error                             score 7 - 10 pts.
For 3 or 4 errors                                score 4 - 6 pts.
For 5 errors                                       score 1 - 3 pts.
 
(C)       PERSONALITY                               10 POINTS
 
-          Must project an air of confidence
-          Answer should not be rehearsed
-          There should be no excessive use of body language
 
Score as follows:
 
For 1 or less error                             score 8 - 10 pts.
For 2 errors                                       score 5 - 7 pts.
For 3 errors                                       score 1 - 4 pts.
 
 
4.         PRODUCTION NUMBER
 
(A)       PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN COSTUME   10 POINTS
 
-          good interpretation of colours, material and style based on design
-          proper fit of outfit/costume
 
Score as follows:
 
Poor                                        score 1 ½ pts.
Fair                                         score 2 ½ - 3 pts.
Good                                       score 3 ½ - 4 pts.
Very Good                             score 4 ½ - 5 pts.
