DONLY GREAUX, FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE HAYNES SMITH YOUTH CLUB
|
HAYNES SMITH YOUTH CLUB
The Haynes Smith Youth Club was formed over twenty-four years ago, on Sunday 17th January 1979 with an initial membership of twenty (20). Most of these were young individuals drawn from the adjoining villages of St. Johnson, Trafalgar, Buckley's, Camps and Haynes Smith. Locally, these districts are collectively referred to as `De Village'.
"It was the need to develop our community's social, educational and cultural activities that really motivated us to form the group," says Donly Greaux, a founding member and sixth term president, in an interview celebrating the 10th anniversary of the club. The Club became very keen to assist school children that had the academic ability but were without the economic means to develop to their full potential. Amongst early club projects were: -
- Book scholarships
- Miss Caribbean Talented Teen Competition
- Village-O-Rama
- St. Kitts-Nevis Federal Calypso Competition
- Sports Sponsorship
- Awards Presentation
- Cultural Exchanges
- Community Work
- Carnival Troupe
The Club's Motto is:
We work Together Hand in hand for Our Community Development
